CEO of new search engine, You.com, challenges Alphabet’s Google.com

A new online search engine, you.com, has been launched today, 09 November 2021, with its CEO, Richard Socher, openly challenging Google’s “monopolistic monolith”.

As one can foresee, a battle with major financial undertones thus begins…

Meanwhile, translators and interpreters may need to stay focused on answers to one key question. What does the new search engine really have in store for the specific search needs of the translation/interpreting expert, especially so with regard to minority endogenous languages of Africa and beyond?

Besides search engine innovations, and with no intention of being a killjoy, what should be the ideal search engine for a translator/interpreter? In other words, with evidence from daily professional tasks, what are some of the translation/interpreting-specific challenges of existing search engines? Are search engines always up to the translators/interpreters’ expectations?

Over to you.
